Mrs. Sauer always looks forward to Springtime and the opportunity to have
a few butterflies in the library! Students in all grades get to watch the various stages: from the larva to the chrysalis, and finally emerging as a butterfly. A few students helped Mrs. Sauer release the beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies! Maybe you will have the pleasure of seeing one of them around our school yard! Mrs. Sauer loves to go camping...so why not bring camping fun to the library!! Students enjoyed "camping out" during their library time, and listening to a story while cozying up in the tent, or by the fire! Mrs. Sauer and the Battle of the Books teams enjoyed a sweet treat to celebrate another successful year! Battle students work very hard all year reading 10 pre-selected books and attend many practices to try to memorize details for Battle competitions. Some students will already start reading the books for next year!
Mrs. Sauer is very proud of all our teams! The past year students participated in the Sagebrush Book Awards. 8 picture books and 8 novels were chosen by a team of Teacher Librarians in our district, and students had the opportunity to read and vote on their favourite!
This year the winners are: Favourite Picture Book Flat Cat Favourite Novel: Odder If you haven't had a chance to read either of these books, be sure to check them out! From our recent Scholastic Book Fair, we were able to raise over $1500 for the library to purchase new books! That's very exciting! A big thank you to everyone for supporting this fundraiser for our library!
Our Grade 5 and 6/7 Battle of the Books teams competed at the District Competition on April 24th. Although they did not achieve a first place finish, Mrs. Sauer is very proud of their efforts and their wonderful representation from Westmount! Special thanks to our wonderful and supportive Battle Team alternates, Danika and Gabby! Way to go Westmount! Congratulations to all of our Zone teams that competed at the Zone Competition. Mrs. Sauer is very proud of all the teams and how well they represented Westmount! Our Grade 5 and 6/7 teams won Zone placements, and will continue on to the District Level on April 24th at the Henry Grube. Good Luck to Ally, Aubrey, Piper, Dreya, Ellie, and Geneva! Congratulations to our Battle of the Books teams that will represent Westmount at the Zone competition on Thursday April 10th.
These students have worked very hard this past year reading and studying the 10 books that they will be quizzed on. Good luck to our teams! Grade 3/4 team: Mia P. Olivia H. Siya N. Grade 5 team: Ally U. Aubrey R. Piper C. Grade 7 team: Dreya R. Ellie S. Geneva W. Alt: Danika S. During Literacy Week at Westmount, many students, and staff, enjoyed dressing up as favourite book characters! Have you read any of these books?! |
